California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard is BROKEN!
Governor Newsom and CARB Chair Randolph can FIX IT.
When we cut pollution from EVERY mode of transportation, EVERY Californian benefits.
Letter from diverse stakeholders from across California to the Air Resources Board:
FIX THE LCFS TO PRIORITIZE ZERO-EMISSION INVESTMENTS!
One of California’s oldest clean air programs is funneling billions to polluters.
Our leaders in Sacramento can fix it!
If the California Air Resources Board fails to correct the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, the state will waste $27 BILLION over the next 10 years on dirty fuels.
The program must be fixed to prioritize zero-emission, electric technologies that will clean up pollution from cars, trucks, buses, planes and ships.
Why Fix the LCFS?
TO GET IT RIGHT, OUR LEADERS IN SACRAMENTO MUST:
-
CAP POLLUTING BIOFUELS
Putting a cap on renewable diesel derived from vegetable oil and animal waste will get the credit price under control and shift investments toward pollution-free, electric fuels.
-
REGULATE AVIATION FUELS
Including jet fuel in the program will drive down pollution from one of the state's dirtiest industry sectors while supporting the program’s overall goal of cleaning up all fuel types.
-
INVEST IN CLEAN SHIPPING FUELS
Crediting pollution-free shipping fuels and simplifying crediting for shore power installations for electric harbor crafts will cut pollution in vulnerable port communities.
-
ELIMINATE METHANE CREDITS
Cutting avoided methane credits will slash pollution in communities living near factory farms and shift investments toward pollution-free fuels.
As seen in the Sacramento Bee and San Francisco Chronicle
Environmental justice, labor and clean air leaders took out multiple full-page ads in newspapers across California calling on Governor Gavin Newsom and CARB Chair Randolph to fix the LCFS!
